US Iran Tensions: United States President Donald Trump has fired a fresh round of salvo at the Islamic Republic of Iran and Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Trump warned Tehran that serious consequences are coming to the way of Iran if it doesn’t mend its ways. In another development, protests by Iranians have surged again, especially in Tehran and Mashhad universities.

It is widely believed that Trump is likely to engage in limited strikes on Iran. However, Iranian ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei remarked that any state in the world would react to an act of aggression (of any form) as part of its inherent right of self-defence ferociously and that’s what Iran would do.

US Iran Tensions-Turn Of Events

Unrest among people is out on the Iranian streets again over economic woes. The streets of Tehran around the Azadi Square have been erupting every day with crowds attacking Basij enforcers, demanding an end to repression and corruption.

Presently, inflation in Iran is at a mammoth 65-70 percent. Military brutality and fuel rationing have united labourers, students and even a few regime insiders. The flare-up of Mashhad has turned the tide in the favour of other Iranian protests and US Trump’s rhetoric. The twin uprising seen in Tehran and Mashhad is likely to cripple the economy of Iran further.

Effect On Oil Prices

Since July, oil price fluctuated to their strongest close. This was primarily influenced by the fact that US and Iran talks are expected to resume on February 26.
