US Iran War: The recent updates on the US-Iran war have once again raised new ambiguity after US President Donald Trump dismissed Iran’s proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and the negotiation timeline. Trump rejects Iran’s Hormuz proposal
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had said that the Strait of Hormuz could be reopened if Washington agreed to some conditions, lifting its naval blockade of Iranian ports, oil sanctions, and unfreezing Iranian money. The scheme also consisted of negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program. Trump refused the deal, telling reporters the agreement they put forth would not be OK. Iran has said it is waiting for a more formal US response to run through mediators before it makes its next move.
Regional flight restrictions add pressure
Meanwhile, there is mounting pressure on Iran’s aviation sector. US sanctions on Iran’s aviation industry have been augmented, and a number of countries have introduced restrictions on Iranian aviation flights and services. In addition, Iraq also requested the US to exempt some airports from sanctions so that Iranian flights could resume for humanitarian reasons, including medical treatment, education, and religious travel.
