US Israel Iran War: The United States Air Force has test-fired the Minuteman III, a powerful nuclear-capable missile, as it launches joint strikes with Israel against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Nicknamed ‘doomsday’ missile, the intercontinental ballistic missile could be used to carry nuclear warheads and strike targets 1000s of kilometres away in less than 30 minutes.

The unarmed Minuteman III ICBM was launched on Tuesday night by the Air Force Global Strike Command from California’s Vandenberg Space Force Base. In a statement, the US Space Force remarked the ICBM was equipped with 2 test re-entry vehicles.
Interestingly, the Minuteman III could be used to carry warheads up to 20 times more powerful than the lethal atomic bomb that was dropped on Japan’s Hiroshima during the Second World War.

In a US Space Force statement, it was revealed that the missile was not officially related to the ongoing conflict with Iran. Identified as test vehicle GT-255 by the US Space Force was primarily launched as part of a long-term routine evaluation program.
The Doomsday Missile was successful in travelling 1000s of miles before it striking the designated impact area in the proximity of the Marshall Islands in the west-central Pacific Ocean.
US Lieutenant Colonel Karrie Wray, 576th Flight Test Squadron commander, remarked GT 255 helped us successfully assess the performance and capabilities of the missile system’s individual components. Wray also added that we are in a better position than ever to improve the entire ICBM fleet’s performance by continually assessing varying mission profiles. It was also added that this would help the United States ensure the maximum readiness levels at all times for the land-based leg of the country’s nuclear triad.
Many political experts believe that the primary reason behind the Doomsday testing was to scare China and not Iran. This is to scare the Asian powerhouse against assisting Iran in its attacks on Israel and the United States.
