Vietnam produces 1st batch of Sputnik-V vaccine

Russia announced Wednesday that a batch of its Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine was produced for the first time in Vietnam, which is battling a new wave of COVID-19 infections.

The test batch was produced in partnership with Vietnam’s state-owned pharmaceutical company Vabiotech, the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), which financially backed Sputnik V, said in a statement.

The first validation samples taken from the produced batch will be shipped to the Gamaleya Center in Russia for quality control checks, the fund and the company said in a joint statement.

Meanwhile, cumulative global cases have reached 191,448,914, according to Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. The worldwide death toll has hit 4,118,441.
