During a press briefing on Thursday, Vladimir Putin expressed appreciation for world leaders striving to mediate in the ongoing conflict. He specifically named PM Modi and Donald Trump among those dedicating their attention to finding a peaceful resolution.
“I extend my sincere thanks to President Trump for his persistent focus on the Ukraine situation. Many leaders, including Prime Minister Modi, President Xi Jinping of China, and leaders from Brazil and South Africa, have been playing a crucial role. Their contributions toward preventing further bloodshed are commendable,” said Putin.
PM Modi’s Push for Peace in Russia-Ukraine Conflict
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently advocated for peace, reinforcing India’s stance on the Russia-Ukraine war. During his recent discussions with Donald Trump at the White House, Modi reiterated that India does not support war but firmly stands for dialogue and diplomatic solutions.
“This is not an era of war but of dialogue and diplomacy,” PM Modi stated, highlighting India's commitment to peace negotiations. He has kept communication lines open with both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, emphasising the need for a peaceful resolution through constructive talks.

The United States has put forth a proposal for a 30-day ceasefire, urging Russia to agree to the conditions without hesitation. While Vladimir Putin acknowledged the need for a ceasefire, he pointed out certain “nuances” that must be addressed before implementation.
Donald Trump welcomed Putin’s response but called for more clarity, stating, “The statement is promising but incomplete. Further negotiations are necessary.”
Ukraine Agrees to Ceasefire Proposal
Under increasing diplomatic pressure, Ukraine has agreed to the ceasefire proposal. Talks held in Saudi Arabia earlier this week saw Ukrainian representatives expressing willingness to work toward peace, especially after a meeting between Trump and Zelensky in February.
