Will Reliance Industries ‘Never Feared Competition’ Comment Trouble Elon Musk? Starlink India Plans Back In Tesla Owner’s Court

Reliance Industries has defended its stance on competition as Elon Musk’s Starlink awaits regulatory clearances to launch satellite internet services in India.

Will Reliance Industries’ “Never Feared Competition” Comment Land Elon Musk in Trouble? Starlink India Plans Return to Tesla Owner’s Court:: Reliance Industries Has Hit Back at Elon Musk over the delay of Starlink in India, Saying It Has “Never Feared Competition” and Is Welcoming Satellite-Based Internet Providers like Starlink.

Reliance Industries Responds to Elon Musk

Reliance Noted That India’s rules and Regulations Are Even-Handed for local and Foreign Operators, and That Everyone Has to abide by the Country’s rules. The company also noted that Jio’s satellite internet operations are pending government approval, and hence not getting special treatment, as is alleged for Starlink. Reliance Pointed to Jio’s Emergence in 2016 in India’s cellphone industry, where it said it has amassed over 530 million clients. It also characterized this as the company’s ability to compete and its attention to clients.

What Elon Musk Said about the Delay in Starlink’s entry into India?

Musk has blamed powerful, unnamed corporate rivals for blocking Starlink’s arrival in India, warning the delays would hurt competition in the satellite broadband industry, and publicly called into question the role of Reliance chairman Mukesh Ambani in the country. The Indian Government dismissed the charge of unfair treatment, saying that security checks were still in progress.

Starlink and Jio Seek Regulatory Approvals

Starlink and the other satellite-services companies have secured the critical licences and permissions, but formal security clearances, Similar to those in other satellite services Countries, remain a critical roadblock before they can launch commercial services. The government has said the operators will need to Fulfill Security Conditions Before They Move to the Spectrum Assignment Stage. Reliance Claims Its Jio Satellite Services Also Need Clearances, while Bharti-backed Eutelsat OneWeb is another player in the queue.

What This Means for India’s Satellite Internet Market?

Another service may be launched by Starlink in territories where broadband options are already scarce. Musk said he plans to make Starlink’s data packages available to users in India at low prices, a market where Jio has a dominant position through cheap connectivity. But the launch date, pricing and timing of availability for the services offered will ultimately depend on the regulatory conditions and the companies’ roll-out plans.

Will Reliance’s Statement Change Starlink’s Launch Plans?

Reliance’s move is already a public indication that the company is on the side of competition and regulatory approval, but it does not solve the question of when Starlink will get the required security clearances, nor set a date for the launch. The key will be whether the approval is granted and when satellite broadband providers can start commercial services in India.
