History of World Diabetes Day

The World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Diabetes Foundation (IDF) collaborated to create World Diabetes Day (WDD) in 1991. After that, in accordance with UN Resolution 61/225, it was proclaimed United Nations Day in 2006. Additionally, November 14, Sir Frederick Banting’s birthday was chosen, as he and Charles Best discovered insulin on that day in 1922.

The Blue Circle Logo designates this day as a worldwide celebration. It was implemented soon after the United Nations formally established the day in 2007. Later, it was adopted as a symbol to raise diabetes awareness. The increased incidence of diabetes was addressed gradually by the international diabetic community.

Importance of World Diabetes Day

Approximately 54.1 crore persons are thought to be at risk of type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes has affected the majority of people.

One of the major diseases that contributed to 67 lakh deaths in 2021, according to the International Diabetes Foundation DF), was diabetes. It is predicted that 53.7 crore people, or 1 in 10, had this illness in the same year. According to this, the population will increase to 64.3 crores in 2030 and 78.3 crores in 2045.

It is crucial to comprehend the symptoms and indicators because there is a dearth of appropriate information and help. You can start the preventive actions with an early diagnosis. With a few lifestyle adjustments and appropriate eating routines, this can be avoided.
