World Post Day, observed every year on October 9, commemorates the foundation of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874 in Bern, Switzerland. This day holds significant global importance, recognizing the crucial role that postal services play in connecting communities and facilitating communication.

World Post Day is celebrated across 151 countries

World Post Day is celebrated across 151 countries and was first officially declared as such during the UPU Congress held in Tokyo, Japan, in 1969. In India, this day marks the beginning of National Postal Week, which runs from October 9 to October 15.

The significance of World Post Day lies in acknowledging the invaluable contributions of postal workers to societies and economies worldwide. It also celebrates the establishment of the UPU and the transformative impact of letters as a means of communication in people’s daily lives.

To commemorate this day, nations around the world often launch new postal initiatives and organize special exhibitions. These events aim to raise awareness about the vital role of postal services in our everyday lives and their substantial contributions to the social and economic development of countries.
