Zoonotic Langya virus: New ‘Langya’ virus hits China

Zoonotic Langya virus: The outbreak of CoronaVirus was not over that Monkeypox started to scare and now another new virus has been found which has infected 35 people so far. This virus is – Zoonotic Langya virus. This virus has been detected in China. Langya henipavirus has been found in Shandong and Henan provinces of China.

According to the Taipei Times, it can spread from animals to humans. According to the Taiwan Center for Disease Control, about 35 people have been infected with the Zoonotic Langya virus so far. Media reports have claimed that Taiwan will start nucleic acid testing method to identify and monitor infection of this virus.

Taiwan CDC Deputy Director-General Chuang Zhen-Hsiang has informed on Sunday that studies about this virus have revealed that the virus does not have human-to-human transmission. However, he said that the CDC cannot yet say that the virus cannot spread from person to person. He has asked people to be cautious about it till more information comes about the virus.

The Deputy Director General of the CDC said that in the investigation done so far in the survey on domestic animals, 2% cases have been found in goats and 5% in dogs. He said that the results of tests conducted on 25 wild animal species suggest that the mole can be the main reason for spreading this Langya henipavirus.

Not only this, the report “A zoonotic henipavirus in febrile patients in China”, published on Thursday in the New England Journal of Medicine, states that a new henipavirus has been identified in China, which is causing febrile illness in humans.

Investigation has revealed that 35 patients infected with Langya henipavirus have been found in Shandong and Henan provinces of China. Chuang said that 35 patients in China have not had any contact with each other, nor have any infected been found in the families and close relatives of these patients. He told that symptoms like fever, fatigue, cough, loss of appetite, muscle pain, headache and vomiting have been found in 26 out of 35 patients. A decrease in white blood cells was also observed in the patients. Not only this, symptoms like low platelets, liver failure and kidney failure have also been found in patients.

As far as COVID is concerned, China’s zero-Covid policy has resulted in unprecedented neglect, abuse and abuse for residents of Shanghai, with videos leaking on social media confirming gross human rights violations. Taiwan’s request to participate in the World Health Assembly (WHA) as an observer was excluded from the convention for the sixth year in a row in 2022 because the Chinese government is blocking Taiwan’s representation.

China was not transparent when it came to the COVID crisis, the way it was managing it and the way it was only concerned about its own interests.

Taiwan, on the other hand, was able to manage the COVID crisis better than others and was also more transparent about those challenges, so Taiwan has been greatly appreciated in that context, experts say.
