RK Narayana norn on October 10, 1906, and died on May 13, 2001. His full name was Rasipuram Krishnaswamy Iyer Narayana Swamy.

Narayan is counted among the greatest novelists of English literature. He based his works on the fictional city of Malgudi in South India. RK Narayan lived in Yadav Giri in Mousur for nearly two decades and in 1990 he shifted to Chennai due to illness.

R. K. Narayan was one of the outstanding Indian writers of his generation writing in English. Raised by his grandmother, Narayan completed his education in 1930 and worked as a teacher for some time.

Although Narayan started his literary career with Short Stories, which featured in ‘The Hindu’. His first novel was named ‘Swami and Friends’. He did not find any publisher in the beginning. Then this draft reached Graham Green, with the help of common friend Puma. Green was an English novelist. He is counted among the greatest writers of the 20th century. Green liked this novel.

RK Narayan, a world-renowned novelist, was awarded several awards, including the Sahitya Academy Award, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan and AC Benson Medal. RK Narayan was also elected to the Rajya Sabha in the year 1989.
