K VijayRaghavan, the chief scientific advisor to the government listed three steps that people need to adhere to keep coronavirus infection at bay. He said there are three things people need to swear by, irrespective of their vaccination. While masks and maintaining physical distance are some commonly known measures to prevent covid spread, he said ventilation must be added to list of Do’s to avoid getting infected.
“These interventions are also immediately critical for lowering pressures on the healthcare system, during this surge. Adherence essential at the personal and community levels. By all,” he said.
Last week, Dr VijayRaghavan had said that the India, that is currently grappling with the second wave of infection, has an inevitable surge of third wave coming in the future. He, however, said later that this can be avoided if people continue to take proper measures to avoid infection.
Meanwhile, World Health Organisation (WHO) on Friday said India’s Covid-19 crisis remains hugely concerning for people all over the world.
“COVID-19 has already cost more than 3.3 million lives and we’re on track for the second year of this pandemic to be far more deadly than the first,” Tedros said.
However, it’s not only India that has emergency needs, he added. Nepal, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Egypt are just some of the countries that have witnessed steep rise in daily number of cases.
Meanwhile, India on Saturday reported 3,26,098 new Covid cases and 3,890 fatalities in the last 24 hours, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said.
