Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has laid the foundation stone for Meerut’s first Integrated Township, signaling a major shift in the state’s urban development strategy. More than just a construction project, this initiative reflects a long-term vision focused on sustainable urban planning, employment generation, and making Meerut a dynamic investment hub within the National Capital Region (NCR).
Why Meerut Matters
Strategically located close to Delhi, Meerut’s geographical advantage has always made it a potential economic center. Today, the city is connected by five major expressways — Delhi-Meerut, Greenfield, Ganga, Defense Corridor, and the Eastern Peripheral Expressway. With upcoming infrastructure projects like the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) and the Jewar International Airport, Meerut is rapidly emerging as a major transit and logistics hub of North India.
Integrated Township: A City Within a City
The new township is being developed in Partapur, close to the RRTS corridor. Designed on the concept of “Walk to Work” and “Green Living,” it will house residential, commercial, industrial, and recreational zones — all within a single, well-planned space. This model not only reduces commute times but also promotes a clean, efficient, and modern lifestyle.
Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Airstrip to Be Upgraded
Another key development is the focus on reviving and upgrading the Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar airstrip, located around 9 km from Gagol village. Spread across 47 acres, this airstrip is currently used for chartered flights. Initially signed for development in 2014 between the Uttar Pradesh Government and the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the project is gaining fresh momentum to boost air connectivity in western UP.
What’s Coming to Meerut?
- RRTS Fully Operational Since June 2025: The high-speed rail network (Namo Bharat) connects Meerut directly to Delhi and other NCR regions.
- Meerut Metro from August 2025: Will further enhance intra-city connectivity, especially between the city and the upcoming township.
- Five Expressways: Ensure smooth connectivity for logistics, daily commute, and long-distance travel.
- Jewar Airport: A gateway for international business, tourism, and exports.
TOD Model: Building a Sustainable Future
The township will follow the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) model, an approach adopted by only a handful of cities in India. The TOD framework promotes:
- High public transport usage
- Reduced dependence on personal vehicles
- Lower pollution levels
- Better energy and time efficiency
- Affordable housing and organized urban growth
Meerut is also the first city to prioritize TOD in its Master Plan 2031, placing it among India’s forward-looking urban centers.
A Vision Beyond Construction
The integrated township reflects CM Yogi Adityanath’s broader mission of transforming Uttar Pradesh’s urban spaces into smart, inclusive, and future-ready cities. It also strengthens Meerut’s position as a key player in the NCR’s development landscape, offering a blend of connectivity, livability, and economic opportunity.
