Punjab News: The Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government has announced a significant relief measure for thousands of mandi (market) labourers across the state. In a move aimed at improving the livelihood and dignity of those working tirelessly in agricultural mandis, the government has approved a 10% hike in mandi labour rates.
With this revision, workers who were earlier earning ₹17.50 per unit will now be paid ₹19.26 per unit, ensuring better wages and recognition of their hard work. The decision reflects the state government’s consistent commitment to uplift every section of society, particularly those from economically weaker backgrounds who play a crucial role in Punjab’s agrarian economy.
A Step Towards Welfare and Dignity
Mandi labourers form the backbone of Punjab’s grain markets, working long hours to load, unload, and manage the smooth movement of food grains. However, their wages had long been a point of concern. By increasing the rates by 10%, the Mann government has not only provided financial relief but also sent a clear message that every section of society deserves respect and fair compensation.
This wage hike comes at a time when inflation and rising living costs have been putting additional pressure on daily wage workers. The step is expected to benefit thousands of mandi labourers directly and boost morale in Punjab’s rural belts.
Government’s Broader Vision
The Mann government has been rolling out a series of welfare initiatives targeted at ensuring social equity, whether it is free school bus services, flood relief measures, or health and education reforms. By prioritizing mandi labourers, the administration has reaffirmed its promise of inclusive governance, ensuring that those who keep the state’s agricultural supply chain functional are not left behind.
