Gurugram News: The Gurugram Metro project is now moving into its second phase, which will stretch from Sector 9 to Cyber Hub, bringing much-needed metro connectivity to more parts of the city. Alongside metro construction, authorities are also planning major road infrastructure upgrades to ensure that traffic flow is not disrupted and that both metro users and road commuters benefit.
According to reports, the Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) has requested the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) to share detailed designs and documents for five new traffic structures, including flyovers and underpasses. While these structures will be built by GMRL, the cost of construction will be borne by GMDA, as per a Hindustan Times report.
Where Will the New Structures Be Built?
The second phase of the project includes significant traffic management measures at key intersections across the city. The following structures have been planned:
- A flyover at Sector 3A-4-5 Chowk on Railway Road
- An underpass from Railway Road to Sheetla Mata Road in Sector 5
- An underpass from Bajghera Road towards Sector 5 at Krishna Chowk
- A flyover at Rezang La Chowk
- An underpass on Old Delhi Road towards Udyog Vihar from Sushil Aima Road
These developments are in addition to the integrated underpass-cum-metro station at Bakhtawar Chowk, which was already approved under Phase 1.
Why These Additions Matter
The construction of these new flyovers and underpasses will help minimize traffic disruptions during metro work and also ensure smoother vehicular movement once the metro is operational. With Gurugram being a rapidly growing urban hub, such integrated planning is expected to significantly improve commuting convenience and reduce congestion at busy junctions.
The Phase 2 metro expansion and its complementary road infrastructure upgrades mark an important step in Gurugram’s transformation into a better-connected and commuter-friendly city.
