Vande Bharat Express Train Extension Brings Varanasi Closer to Meerut

With Vande Bharat bridging distances, Varanasi is not just a destination—it becomes a more accessible gateway to India’s cultural soul, balancing its ancient ethos with modern development.

Vande Bharat Train: On a typical day in Varanasi, the city reverberates with conch shells, mantras, and whispers of faith, yet silence descends before the timeless flow of the Ganga and the stark reality of Manikarnika Ghat. Known as Banaras or Kashi, the ancient city has long drawn mystics, poets, travelers, and seekers from around the world.

Vande Bharat Express Train Extension Brings Varanasi Closer to Meerut

Now, with the launch of an extended Vande Bharat Express service, reaching Varanasi has become even easier. The semi-high-speed train, already running on the Meerut–Lucknow route, has now been extended to the holy city. Covering 783 km in 11 hours and 50 minutes, the train halts at five stations—Hapur, Moradabad, Bareilly, Lucknow NR, and the newly added stop, Ayodhya—before reaching Varanasi.

For visitors, this new connectivity adds convenience to experiencing the spiritual heart of India. Whether it is witnessing the Subah-e-Banaras at Assi Ghat, attending the grand Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat, or exploring the historic Kashi Vishwanath Temple through its redeveloped corridor, the city continues to captivate. A boat ride on the Ganga further completes the journey, offering a perspective of Varanasi’s timeless charm.

The train extension is expected to boost tourism significantly

The train extension is expected to boost tourism significantly, as pilgrims, domestic travelers, and international visitors will find faster and more comfortable access to the city. Local businesses—ranging from hotels and restaurants to artisans and boatmen—are likely to benefit from the increased footfall. Handloom weavers of Banarasi sarees, sweet shops selling the famous Banarasi paan, and guides offering heritage walks will see new opportunities.

Residents also welcome the move, as the train strengthens connections with major hubs of Uttar Pradesh. Improved mobility means better access to education, healthcare, and trade for people along the route. By linking Varanasi with Ayodhya on this stretch, the train also symbolically connects two of the most revered spiritual centers of the country.

With Vande Bharat bridging distances, Varanasi is not just a destination—it becomes a more accessible gateway to India’s cultural soul, balancing its ancient ethos with modern development.
