It was claimed in the plea that the stone-pelting by the crowd and a lathi-charge by the police aggravated the situation to a level where people panicked and a stampede ensued, resulting in the deaths of many. TVK declared that it will relocate the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court to demand an independent investigation into the incident.
TVK Leaders vs. Police
In the meantime, leading TVK leaders have been indicted by police on serious charges, including district secretary Mathiazhagan, general secretary Bussy Anand, and joint general secretary C T Nirmal Kumar. Cases have been filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and also the Tamil Nadu Public Property Damage Act.

Justice N Senthilkumar will also hear an urgent petition at 4:30 pm today, requesting that TVK not be allowed to conduct any public meetings until the investigation into the Karur stampede is ready. Response and Compensation of Vijay
Vijay himself, in an emotional message, said that he was broken by the deaths. He declared 20 lakh as compensation to families of the dead and 2lakh to those injured and termed the loss as irreparable. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin also hurried to Karur, where he met with victims in the hospital and promised to give full government aid, terming the deaths as unbearable.
