Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh announced that the state government has imposed a complete ban on Coldrif cough syrup after reports emerged linking it to adverse health effects. The Health Department has directed all chemists and distributors to immediately withdraw the product from their shelves and refrain from selling any other medicines manufactured by the same company.

In a message shared on social media, Dr. Singh urged parents to avoid giving unverified medicines to children. “Use only approved cough medicines or trusted home remedies. If any chemist is found selling Coldrif, strict legal action will be taken,” he warned.
The government has also initiated a statewide inspection drive
The government has also initiated a statewide inspection drive to ensure compliance with the ban. Health officials have been instructed to monitor pharmacies and medical stores closely, and violators may face cancellation of their licenses.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann reiterated his government’s commitment to safeguarding the health of Punjab’s citizens. He stated that no negligence would be tolerated when it comes to the well-being of children and the safety of medicines sold in the market.
This move reflects Punjab’s growing focus on strengthening drug regulation and curbing the sale of substandard or potentially unsafe pharmaceutical products.
