The Indian film and TV industry is still mourning the loss of veteran actor Satish Shah, who passed away on October 25 at 74. The actor was known for his sharp comic timing and warm screen presence, and his death has left a deep void.
Now, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting that Satish Shah be honoured with a posthumous Padma Shri for his remarkable legacy.
FWICE Urges PM Modi To Honour Late Satish Shah With Padma Shri
The film body called the honour a “fitting tribute” to Shah’s long contribution to cinema, television and theatre. FWICE (which represents over 36 associations and thousands of workers from the entertainment industry) expressed deep respect for Shah’s work.
The letter read, “With folded hands and deep respect, we, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) – the parent body of 36 affiliated associations and scores of members representing the vast workforce of the Indian film, television and digital industry – wish to humbly appeal to your good self to kindly consider conferring the Padma Shri Award (Posthumously) upon Late Shri Satish Shah, one of India’s most beloved and distinguished actors.”

FWICE Calls Satish Shah ‘A Rare And Gifted Artist’
FWICE praised Shah for bringing joy to millions through his memorable performances. The letter further stated, “Late Shri Satish Shah was a rare and gifted artist whose work brought joy, laughter, and emotion to millions across our nation. Through his unforgettable performances in Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, Main Hoon Na and numerous other landmark films and television shows, he became a household name and a symbol of excellence in the performing arts.”
The organisation added that the award would be a tribute to Shah’s dedication to entertainment and culture. Their letter mentioned that Satish Shah’s death has left a deep void among those who knew him and in the creative world he enriched. It said that giving him the Padma Shri posthumously would be a fitting way to honour his lifelong dedication to art and entertainment. The gesture would also recognise a man who brought smiles to millions for over four decades and inspired many to pursue their dreams.
Satish Shah’s Final Days
Satish Shah collapsed at his Mumbai home during lunch and was rushed to Hinduja Hospital, where doctors could not revive him. The actor had undergone a kidney transplant a few months earlier and was recovering, but his health had been fragile.
Rajesh Kumar (who played Roshesh Sarabhai in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai) said that Shah passed away due to a heart attack. He said, “I can’t tell you how emotional these last 24–25 hours have been. It’s very difficult to even express it. But I do want to clarify a few things about Satishji’s passing. Yes, he did have a kidney issue, but he actually passed away due to a heart attack.”
Shah’s funeral took place in Mumbai on Sunday, followed by a prayer meet attended by his family, friends and industry colleagues. Many paid emotional tributes to the actor who made millions laugh with his iconic roles.
Over his four-decade-long career, Satish Shah worked across films, television, and theatre. From the classic Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro to the cult favourite Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, he redefined comedy with warmth and grace.
