Sonakshi Sinha has finally made her Telugu debut with Jatadhara, a supernatural thriller that hit cinemas on 7 November 2025. Also released in Hindi, the film has created quite a buzz, marking one of the most anticipated releases of the week.
Directed by Venkat Kalyan and Abhishek Jaiswal, Jatadhara is produced by Zee Studios and Prerna Arora. The film attempts to tell a horror story through a spiritual lens instead of relying on standard jump scares. It draws inspiration from Indian mythology, mixing age-old beliefs with modern storytelling.
However, as early reviews started pouring in, the audience response appears mixed. While some appreciated the mythological depth, others found the execution disappointing.
Jatadhara Movie Review: Sonakshi Sinha Starrer Gets Mixed Reactions From Viewers
According to early viewers, Jatadhara has left audiences divided. Some praised its visual ambition, while others called it one of the weakest films of the year. One user wrote, “#Jatadhara is UNBEARABLE. A King-size Disappointment that fails miserably in every aspect. A lot could’ve been achieved around this concept, but unfortunately this one fails badly. #SudheerBabu falls prey to lacklustre writing and poor execution.”
Many viewers criticised the film’s technical quality, stating that the special effects looked “cheap and unnecessary.” Some felt that while the story had potential, the weak direction and patchy screenplay ruined its impact.
Another social media user said, “There is not even a single positive in the film. It is one of the most clueless films in recent times. Not even the technicalities impress.”
A Telugu viewer expressed frustration over basic errors in the dubbing and subtitles, commenting that “even the names didn’t match between dialogues and captions.” They also mocked the lack of horror, saying, “Director Venkat Kalyan made a horror film but managed to ensure that not a single scene is actually scary.”
The user further said, “Sonakshi Sinha appears in just two scenes,” and rated the film “0.5/5,” calling it a “terrifying experience – not because of horror, but because it’s that awful.”
However, not everyone was unimpressed. A few fans appreciated the film’s attempt to explore Indian mythology in a fresh way. One post read, “#Jatadhara delivers mythic thrills. #SudheerBabu superb and #SonakshiSinha good. The film follows Sudheer Babu’s character as he delves into the hidden rituals of the legendary Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple.”
About the Film
Jatadhara is a 2025 supernatural thriller that explores the clash between modern science and ancient Indian mythology. It revolves around Shiva, a ghost hunter who doesn’t believe in the supernatural but finds himself confronting it head-on. The story involves black magic, hidden treasure and a vengeful spirit.
Sudheer Babu stars as Shiva, while Sonakshi Sinha plays Dhana Pisaachi, a powerful spirit seeking justice. The cast also includes Divya Khosla Kumar, Shilpa Shirodkar, Indira Krishna, Ravi Prakash and Rajeev Kanakala.
With a reported budget of over Rs 50 crore, Jatadhara was filmed across Mount Abu and Tirupati Balaji Dham. Despite its ambitious scale and mythic theme, the film seems to have struggled with execution, leaving audiences split between admiration and disappointment.
Whether Jatadhara manages to gain traction in the coming days remains to be seen.
