The Girlfriend Box Office Collection: Rashmika Mandanna starrer The Girlfriend (directed by Rahul Ravindran) hit theatres this Friday. Starring Rashmika alongside Dheekshith Shetty, the film opened to mixed reviews, with critics praising her performance but pointing out flaws in pacing and storytelling.
On its second day, The Girlfriend showed a modest increase in collections, though it still faces the challenge of proving Rashmika’s solo box office appeal.
The Girlfriend Box Office Collection Day 2
According to Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 2.50 crore net on Saturday, taking its two-day domestic total to Rs 3.80 crore. The Friday opening had brought in Rs 1.30 crore, with the Telugu version contributing Rs 1.25 crore and the Hindi version just Rs 0.05 crore. Occupancy rose to 25.38% on Saturday from 16.90% on opening day, signalling a slight growth in audience turnout.
Despite promotional efforts, sustaining momentum over the weekend and into the weekdays remains uncertain. Interestingly, this small surge seems to have impacted another South film released on the same day. Sonakshi Sinha’s Telugu debut Jatadhara struggled amid some relief to Rashmika Mandanna starrer.

Jatadhara Box Office Collection Day 2
Jatadhara opened with Rs 1.07 crore on Friday but added only Rs 0.89 crore on Saturday, bringing its two-day total to Rs 1.96 crore across all languages. Weekend growth is usually expected for a film, so the lack of a significant jump suggests audiences did not connect with it.
In the Telugu belt, the morning shows of Jatadhara saw 12.21% occupancy, rising slightly to 17.42% by night. The Hindi version struggled further, peaking at just 11.61% occupancy during night shows.

About The Girlfriend And Jatadhara
Produced by Dheeraj Mogilneni and Vidya Koppineni and presented by Allu Aravind’s Geetha Arts, The Girlfriend follows postgraduate student Bhooma Devi (Rashmika), who is manipulated into falling for college student Vikram (Dheekshith Shetty). Trapped in a toxic relationship, Bhooma struggles to break free. Rao Ramesh also plays a pivotal role, while Hesham Abdul Wahab’s music adds depth to the narrative.
Critics praised Rashmika for her emotional depth but criticised the story’s slow pace and uneven writing. Several subplots, including a domineering father figure, were seen as distractions that weakened the main story of toxic love. The college setting felt unrealistic, and supporting characters ( including Anu Emmanuel’s subplot) appeared underdeveloped.
Jatadhara (directed by Abhishek Jaiswal and Venkat Kalyan) delves into an ancient legend of nobles sealing treasures with sacred rituals called “bandanas.” One such Pisachi Bandana unleashed a fierce guardian spirit, Dhanapisachi. The story follows rational ghost hunter Shiva (Sudheer Babu), who is forced to confront supernatural events and question his beliefs. Sonakshi Sinha, Shilpa Shirodkar, Indira Krishnan, and Ravi Prakash deliver compelling performances in this epic tale.
