The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has reiterated an important provision under the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS), stating that members who become permanently and totally disabled during the course of employment are entitled to receive a monthly pension.
EPFO Highlights Key Provision of Employees’ Pension Scheme for Disabled Members
Sharing the information through its official communication channels, EPFO emphasised that the provision aims to provide financial security and dignity to workers who are unable to continue employment due to severe disability. The organisation described the benefit as a crucial component of India’s social security framework.
According to EPFO, an EPS member who suffers permanent and total disablement while in service does not need to complete the minimum pensionable service period to become eligible for the pension. The pension is payable from the date of disablement, subject to verification and fulfilment of prescribed conditions.
The pension body has encouraged members and employers to stay informed about their rights and benefits under the Employees’ Pension Scheme. To enhance awareness, EPFO has also released an informational video explaining EPS provisions in a simplified manner, accessible through its official digital platforms.
Officials said the initiative is part of EPFO’s broader effort to strengthen outreach
Officials said the initiative is part of EPFO’s broader effort to strengthen outreach and ensure that beneficiaries are fully aware of social security entitlements available to them. The campaign aligns with the government’s focus on inclusive growth and worker welfare, particularly for vulnerable sections of the workforce.
The Employees’ Pension Scheme, managed by EPFO under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, provides retirement and survivor benefits to millions of workers across the country. With periodic awareness drives, EPFO aims to ensure that no eligible member is deprived of pension benefits due to lack of information.
