Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann confirmed the incident and said that the accident occurred due to poor visibility caused by heavy fog in the early morning hours. He stated that teams from the State Safety Force (SSF) rushed to the spot immediately after the incident.

Expressing grief over the loss of lives, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said he has directed the administration to conduct an immediate investigation into the accident. He added that he is in constant touch with district authorities to ensure proper action and assistance to the affected families.
“The loss of lives is extremely unfortunate. I have asked the administration to probe the incident without delay,” the Chief Minister said in a statement.
Dense Fog Disrupts Road Safety in Punjab
Preliminary reports suggest that low visibility due to thick fog led to the Fortuner vehicle colliding with the divider, resulting in fatal injuries to all five occupants. Foggy conditions have been prevailing across several parts of Punjab over the past few days, increasing the risk of road accidents.

Chief Minister Mann also issued a public advisory, urging people to exercise extra caution while travelling during foggy conditions.
“Every life is precious. I appeal to everyone to remain alert, drive carefully, and follow safety measures while on the roads,” he said.

The incident has once again highlighted the growing concern over winter-related road accidents in Punjab. Authorities have urged drivers to use fog lights, maintain safe speeds, and avoid unnecessary travel during early morning hours when visibility is severely reduced.
