Domestic Violence Turns Fatal: Kajal Chaudhary Case Highlights Growing Femicide Concern in India, SWAT Commando’s Mother Says ‘They Had Arguments From… ‘

Kajal Chaudhary’s death is not just a personal tragedy but a stark reminder of India’s ongoing struggle with domestic violence and femicide. As investigations continue, the case underscores the urgent need for early reporting, institutional accountability, and stronger safeguards for women—even those in uniform.

The death of Kajal Chaudhary, a 27-year-old Delhi Police Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) commando, has reignited national concern over domestic violence and femicide in India. Kajal, who was four months pregnant, died on January 27, 2026, days after allegedly being assaulted by her husband inside their home in Delhi.

What Happened to Kajal Chaudhary?

According to police reports and family statements, Kajal was brutally beaten with a dumbbell on January 22 following an argument linked to dowry demands and financial disputes. She was rushed to the hospital after her condition deteriorated, but was later declared brain-dead. She succumbed to her injuries five days later.

The accused husband has been arrested, and authorities are preparing to file murder charges.

Mother Reveals Pattern of Abuse After Marriage

Kajal’s mother has alleged that the violence began immediately after the wedding in November 2023. She stated that frequent arguments and harassment became routine, but Kajal never filed a formal complaint despite confiding in her family regularly.

Brother Overheard Assault on Phone Call

In a chilling revelation, Kajal’s brother Nikhil said he overheard the assault live during a phone call. He alleged that the husband taunted him, saying, “I’m killing your sister,” before disconnecting the call.

The family immediately alerted authorities, leading to Kajal’s emergency hospitalisation. The audio account has become a key part of the investigation.

Femicide Concerns and Systemic Failure

The killing of a trained police commando has intensified debates around women’s safety within private spaces. Experts note that femicide often follows prolonged, unaddressed domestic abuse.

Despite legal protections, many cases remain hidden due to stigma, fear, and lack of early intervention. This case has also triggered outrage on social media, with many demanding stricter enforcement of anti-dowry laws.
