Punjab’s pioneering Road Safety Force (SSF) has completed two years since its formation, marking a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to enhance public safety and reduce road fatalities. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said the initiative has delivered tangible results, with road accident-related deaths declining by 48 percent since the force became operational.

Launched as the country’s first dedicated Road Safety Force, the SSF was created with the objective of ensuring rapid emergency response during road accidents. According to the state government, SSF teams now reach accident sites within 5 to 7 minutes, providing immediate assistance and ensuring that injured victims are shifted to hospitals without delay.

The force is equipped with trained personnel

Officials said the swift response mechanism has played a crucial role in saving lives, especially on highways and accident-prone stretches. The force is equipped with trained personnel, emergency medical support, and specialized vehicles to manage critical situations effectively during the golden hour after an accident.

The success of Punjab’s Road Safety Force has drawn attention from other states as well. Several state governments have reportedly approached Punjab to study and adopt the SSF model, recognising its effectiveness in reducing fatalities and improving post-accident care.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann reiterated that every life is valuable, and the government remains committed to strengthening systems that protect citizens on the roads. He said the SSF reflects the state’s focus on preventive governance, rapid response, and people-centric public safety reforms.

With continuous training, technological support, and expansion of coverage, the Punjab government aims to further improve road safety outcomes and make highways and urban roads safer for all commuters.
