MRK Panneerselvam: The recent comments by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader MRK Panneerselvam against North Indians have received backlash from several political parties including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Janta Dal (U), Samajwadi Party (SP), All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and Congress.
Paneerselvam while speaking to DMK partymen at an event in Chengalpattu remarked that workers from North India visit Tamil Nadu just to sell pani puri, clean tables and to work at construction sites because they have only studied Hindi.
AIADMK spokesperson Kovai Sathyan remarked that the comments of Paneerselvam were highly condemnable. Sathyan remarked North Indians visiting Tamil Nadu are beaten, raped and murdered even though all they do is to contribute to the welfare and development of the state’s economy .
Meanwhile, DMK insisted that the comments of Paneerselvam were not wrong or derogatory. It was commented by DMK spokesperson T K S Elangovan that they only highlight the plight of how states ruled by BJP treated their own people.
BJP Spokesperson Responds To MRK Panneerselvam Comments
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala took to X saying that bad-mouthing about North Indians is not new to politicians from the state of Tamil Nadu.

Shehzad referred to the 2026 speech of DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran when he said North Indian girls are told to stay home, bear children and work in the kitchen.
Shehzad also referred to DMK minister Durai Murugan who referred to the culture of North India as filthy and disgusting involving multiple spouses. The BJP spokesperson also referred to DMK minister TRB Rajaa who had remarked that women in North India are first asked about the jobs of their husbands.
Politicians From Different Parties Blast Regressive Comments
Meanwhile, several politicians from different party lines blasted the regressive comments of Paneerselvam.
These included JD(U) MP Sanjay Jha, SP MP Awadhesh Prasad, Congress MP Tariq Anwar, BJP MP Darshan Singh and BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal to name a few.
