T20 World Cup Boycott: As expected, the boycott drama of the Pakistan cricket team is about to end! Now, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has given a hint that it would consult the Shehbaz Sharif government after the Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) requested to reconsider its decision to boycott the February 15 match against arch-rivals India in Colombo.

A few days back, the Pakistani government allowed the country’s cricket team to participate in the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup 2026. However, Sharif government said Pakistan would not play its Group A match against India. This was after the International Cricket Council (ICC) removed Bangladesh from the prestigious cup after its request to shift matches from India to Sri Lanka was denied by the world governing body of cricket.
T20 World Cup Boycott-Request by Sri Lanka
The SLC sent an email to the PCB asking it to reconsider its decision to boycott its match against India. It communicated to the PCB that such a boycott would hurt the financial prospects of the SLC and the country’s image.
According to media reports, Pakistan and Mohsin Naqvi, who is the Chairman of the PCB, are considering the SLC request. It was revealed that Sri Lanka and Pakistan share close and friendly ties at the cricket and government-to-government level. Moreover, sources said Naqvi has been approached directly by SLC President Shammi Silva. Naqvi had assured the SLC that he would have a word with the Sharif government and get back to him.
Would Pakistan Say Yes?
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and Shehbaz Sharif are all likely to find ways to play the game against India. SLC’s request could just give it the ammunition and reasons it need to claim that it has decided to play against India for the sake of good ties with Sri Lanka Cricket Board.
