US Iran War: “Beyond Shameful And An Embarrassment”, Tehran’s UN NPT Leadership Infuriates America

US Iran War: Christopher Yeaw, assistant secretary for the US Bureau of Arms Control and Non-proliferation, commented that the selection of Iran was nothing but an "affront" to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

US Iran War: On Monday, the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran clashed at the United Nations over the nuclear program of Tehran. America was agitated after Iran was selected as one of the vice-presidents at a month-long conference for reviewing the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

US Iran War-NPT Updates

The 11th conference to review NPT’s implementation started in New York at the United Nations. A total of 34 conference Vice-Presidents were nominated by different groups and Vietnam’s UN ambassador Do Hung Viet, the conference chairman, remarked that Iran was selected by “the group of non-aligned and other states.”

Reaction of USA To Iran’s Vice Presidency

Reacting to the development, Christopher Yeaw, assistant secretary for the US Bureau of Arms Control and Non-proliferation, commented that the selection of Iran was nothing but an “affront” to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Yeaw remarked that it is beyond any doubt that the state of Iran has long demonstrated its contempt for the on-proliferation commitments of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. The assistant secretary for the US Bureau of Arms Control and Non-proliferation added that Iran had long refused to cooperate fully with the nuclear watchdog of the United Nations for resolving questions and doubts about its nuclear program. Yeaw termed the selection of Iran as beyond shameful and an embarrassment to the credibility of the conference.

In response to Yeaw’s claims, Reza Najafi, who serves as Tehran’s ambassador to the International Atomic Energy ‌Agency, condemned the US reaction and rejected the claims of Yeaw as “baseless and politically motivated.”

In another development, US President Donald Trump has remarked that he is not happy with the revised proposal sent by Iran as it does not focus on Tehran’s nuclear program. Previously, Iran has offered to end its chokehold on the strategic Strait of Hormuz if the Trump administration lifts its blockade on Tehran.
