Bengal Election 2026: The Supreme Court of India would hear the plea of Trinamool Congress (TMC) against the order by the Calcutta High Court against the deployment of only Central government employees as vote-counting supervisors.
At least 77 complaints have been received by ECI related to EVM tampering during the second and final phase of West Bengal Elections 2026. Repolling is being conducted in the Magrahat Paschim Assembly constituency at 11 booths and 4 booths in the Diamond Harbour Assembly constituency in South 24 Parganas.
West Bengal Elections 2026-Mamata Banerjee’s Political Fortress Under Scrutiny
For over a decade, Mamata Banerjee has maintained a firm grip on West Bengal’s political machinery. Her rise from grassroots activism to unseating the Left Front’s 34-year rule remains one of the most significant political shifts in modern Indian history. Since then, she has built a formidable political network that blends welfare populism with strong organizational control.
DON'T MISS
However, the current controversy arrives at a time when her leadership is already facing multiple pressures. Anti-incumbency, factionalism within the TMC and an increasingly aggressive opposition, particularly from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have begun to erode the aura of invincibility that once surrounded her.
The Opposition’s Moment
For the Bharatiya Janata Party, this controversy presents both an opportunity and a test. The BJP, which has been positioning itself as the primary challenger in West Bengal, has been quick to amplify the allegations and demand accountability. Other parties, including the Congress and the Left, have also lent their voices, though their electoral relevance in the state has diminished over time.
West Bengal has a long history of politically charged elections, and maintaining public faith in the process is essential for stability. The outcome of this development could influence not only the current political cycle but also the norms and expectations surrounding future elections.
