Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath has urged children and young people to make sports an integral part of their daily lives, saying athletics not only creates champions but also helps keep youth away from social evils such as drug abuse while opening new career opportunities.

In a message to the people of the state, the Chief Minister highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s recent sporting achievements, including the state’s men’s team winning the 65th National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championship for the first time with 20 medals. He also praised the contribution of five players from Uttar Pradesh to India’s gold medal-winning team at the Men’s Under-18 Hockey Asia Cup in Japan.
Yogi highlights Uttar Pradesh’s sporting achievements
Yogi Adityanath said Uttar Pradesh has produced several distinguished sportspersons, including cricketer Deepti Sharma, Paralympian Praveen Kumar, javelin thrower Annu Rani, visually impaired sprinter Simran Sharma, and chess Grandmaster Vantika Agrawal. He noted that the state government has strengthened sports policies while expanding training facilities and opportunities for athletes.
The Chief Minister said the government is developing sports grounds in every gram panchayat, mini stadiums at the block level, and modern stadiums in every district. He added that the Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Meerut is ready, while sports colleges and centres of excellence will be established in every division to provide world-class training and infrastructure.
Appealing to parents to encourage their children’s sporting talent, Yogi Adityanath said sports instil discipline, teamwork, perseverance, and confidence while providing a pathway to success. He added that the state government is also offering government jobs to outstanding athletes to ensure their secure future and recognise their achievements.
