Anurag Dhanda: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has criticised the Centre’s rollout of E20 fuel, alleging that the higher ethanol-blended petrol is causing problems for vehicle owners. The party claimed that concerns related to vehicle performance and maintenance need to be addressed through greater transparency and public consultation.
Anurag Dhanda Raises Concerns Over E20 Fuel
AAP leader Anurag Dhanda shared a statement on social media supporting party national convener Arvind Kejriwal, who recently interacted with vehicle owners and automobile mechanics in Delhi. According to Kejriwal, several people reported that their vehicles had developed mechanical issues after using E20 fuel and that fuel efficiency had also declined.
Questions Impact on Vehicles
Kejriwal urged the Central government to reconsider the implementation of E20 fuel, alleging that the concerns being raised by motorists should not be ignored. He said policies affecting millions of vehicle owners should be based on practical experience and public feedback.
The Centre has promoted ethanol blending as part of its strategy to reduce dependence on imported crude oil, support domestic biofuel production and lower carbon emissions. However, some vehicle owners and mechanics have expressed concerns about the compatibility of older vehicles with higher ethanol-blended fuel.
The claims made by AAP regarding vehicle damage and reduced mileage have not been independently verified. Automobile manufacturers generally advise consumers to use the type of fuel recommended for their specific vehicle models.
The debate over E20 fuel continues as policymakers, industry stakeholders and consumers discuss its long-term benefits, technical challenges and impact on vehicle performance.
