Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann highlighted the state government’s initiatives for farmers and agricultural development while addressing a farmers’ event at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU).
Mann said the government has increased the use of canal water in agriculture and taken measures aimed at improving groundwater levels and making farming more convenient for farmers.

Canal Water Use Reaches 88%, Says Bhagwant Mann
Speaking at the PAU farmers’ fair, Mann said the use of canal water for irrigation has reached 88% in Punjab.
He said increasing canal irrigation is part of the government’s efforts to make agriculture a more economically viable occupation while reducing dependence on groundwater.
14,000 Km Underground Pipelines Laid
Mann also claimed that around 14,000 km of underground pipelines have been laid across the state.
According to the Chief Minister, these measures have contributed to a rise of up to 5 metres in groundwater levels in the state.
The government has been focusing on expanding alternative irrigation sources amid concerns over groundwater depletion in Punjab.
Daytime Electricity Supply for Agricultural Fields
Mann further highlighted the provision of daytime electricity supply to agricultural fields, saying the move has been taken to make farming operations more convenient for farmers.
He also expressed optimism about the state’s paddy yield this season, attributing the expectation of a strong harvest to the efforts of Punjab’s farmers.
PAU’s Global Ranking Highlighted
During his address, Mann also referred to Punjab Agricultural University and said its inclusion among the world’s top 100 universities was a matter of pride for Punjab.
He also felicitated progressive farmers at the farmers’ fair, recognising their contribution to the agricultural sector.
The figures and claims regarding canal water usage, underground pipelines and groundwater levels were made by Bhagwant Mann during his address.
