One of its key components is the distribution of free sanitary napkins to eligible women. Under the state’s approved sanitary pad supply programme, women between 20 and 40 years of age residing in Jharkhand are entitled to receive sanitary pads through Anganwadi centres.
According to the state government’s guidelines, eligible beneficiaries are provided with three packets of sanitary napkins every three months, with each packet containing six pads. Distribution takes place through Anganwadi centres during Village Health, Sanitation and Nutrition Days (VHSND).
The initiative is intended to encourage better menstrual hygiene practices
The initiative is intended to encourage better menstrual hygiene practices, improve awareness about women’s health and reduce the risk of health complications associated with inadequate menstrual hygiene.
The scheme is being implemented through the Department of Women, Child Development and Social Security, Government of Jharkhand. It also reflects the state’s broader focus on women’s welfare and social empowerment.
Eligibility for the sanitary pad distribution component includes women who are permanent residents of Jharkhand and fall within the prescribed age group of 20 to 40 years. Certain conditions relating to government employment, pensions and income-tax status also apply.
The initiative is part of the state’s wider efforts to address women’s health and hygiene needs and improve access to essential services at the community level.
Under Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s leadership, women’s welfare has remained an important area of the Jharkhand government’s social development agenda, with various initiatives focusing on financial support, education, healthcare and empowerment.
