KTM India may not bring its bigger and more powerful bikes to India, all we know about this move so far

KTM: KTM recently reached the production milestone of 1 million units in India. In order to jointly develop and construct lower-capacity bikes in India for export, KTM and Bajaj Auto formed cooperation back in 2007. Since production officially began in 2011, nearly half of the units produced have been shipped overseas to 118 different nations.

KTM in India

While Stefan Pierer, CEO of Pierer Mobility AG (KTM’s parent company), stated that KTM may not release larger bikes in India anytime soon, the business does manufacture motorbikes in India that have a displacement range of 125 cc to 373 cc (390 series). While several of the larger capacity motorcycles KTM showcased at the 2022 India Bike Week were merely displays, KTM was also testing the public’s interest in a select few models, such as the 890 Adventure R and the 790 Duke. In reality, the 790 Duke was also marketed in India a few years ago. However, the CBU import model was later withdrawn when the BS6 emissions standards were implemented, and it was never re-released. Therefore, it might not also launch models like the 890 Adventure R in India.

Company’s Plan

According to Stefan Pierer, KTM does not intend to offer any greater capacity models in India because it caters to the nation’s younger consumers. There were rumours that a parallel-twin engine from the 490 series was in the works, but KTM has also abandoned these ideas. Although it is unknown whether it will come to this country, it is rumoured that a 690 platform is now under development to bridge the gap between the 390 and 790 platforms in international markets. Rajiv Bajaj, managing director of Bajaj Auto, contrasted this by stating that Bajaj is prepared to construct bigger capacity motorcycles should KTM decide to introduce them to our market.
