When we talk about Off-road SUVs in India, Mahindra Thar and Maruti Jimny are two most popular options to choose from. Force also offers Gurkha in the same segment, but it’s not much popular in the segment. Among all these option, Mahindra Thar is an option which dominates the segment. Currently , the Thar is available in 3 door variant, but the automakers is testing the 5 door variant of the off-road SUV. But there are news of the arrival of a new and worthy contender from Toyota in the segment. The new Off-road SUV is expected to be a mini version of Toyota Land Cruiser.

Toyota Off-Road SUV: Expected To Be Launched Next Year

If we trust on the rumours, the upcoming Toyota’s Off-road SUV is expected to be offered in electric and Hybrid powertrain. It is slated to be a production version of the previously showcased Compact Cruiser EV concept. The SUV may arrive next year in the market. If the automaker will launch this vehicle in India, it will face a cutting edge competition from Mahindra Thar and Maruti Jimny.

Toyota Off-Road SUV: May Feature Rugged Look

The upcoming Off-road SUV may feature the same design as compact cruiser concept. It is expected to features a flat roof. It may arrive with the same shapes as Corolla Cross. In terms of length, It could have a bigger size than Jimny and it will be based on body-on-frame chassis. The upcoming SUV can come with a spare wheel placed at the tailgate and LED headlamps. It is expected to have a rugged design which will look more atractive and solid.

Toyota Off-Road SUV: Worthy Rival To Mahindra Thar and Maruti Jimny

The upcoming Land Cruiser is expected to be powered with a 2.0 litre Petrol engine, RAV4’s 2.5 litre Petrol and Hybrid engine or a 2.8 litre Turbocharged 4 cylinder diesel engine. With these powertrain, the upcoming SUV can be a worthy rival to Mahindra Thar and Maruti Jimny, if launched in Indian markets in the same segment.
