In an effort to maintain its competitiveness in the biggest auto market in the world, Chinese electric car giant BYD doubled down on price reductions on Monday by opening a new tab and releasing an updated version of its plug-in hybrid sedan Qin Plus DM-i with a reduced starting price.
The beginning price of the new model is 79,800 yuan ($11,090), which is 20% less than that of the previous model.
What did the company say?
In a statement posted on the microblogging platform Weibo, BYD stated that “The price will make petrol car assemblers tremble, The Glory Edition will become a benchmark for the Class-A [compact] car segment.”
