The hatchback made its India debut in 2010 and was known for its performance and best-in-segment build. However, the automaker was forced to discontinue the popular name due to some reasons including reduced sales and the existence of better alternatives in the market with lower price tags. However, there is good news for Polo lovers in India, the name is confirmed to make India’s comeback and this news is now confirmed by VW’s Brand Director at the VW Annual Brand Conference 2024.
Is Polo Coming Back to India?
Relaunching Polo is not planned at this time, however it may happen in the future. Relaunching the Polo in an SUV or EV shape is one of the possibilities that may be taken into consideration by the automaker. As Volkswagen has switched to an India 2.0 strategy, therefore it might not be able to relaunch the Polo in its original configuration. The brand is in line with its worldwide strategies which prioritize the luxury market.

The automaker’s India 2.0 project proved profitable for the brand with the introduction of some successful models like Taigun and Virtus in India. If the brand is seeking to launch the Polo back in its original form in India, it will not ensure that the brand will achieve its sales target with an old name especially now when there is cutting-edge competition in the segment.
