Baojun Yep EV SUV: With a range of 303km and ADAS tech in place, this compact SUV can be a game changer, details

Baojun Yep compact SUV

Baojun Yep compact SUV: China has played host to the world premiere of the Baojun Yep small electric SUV, which is built on the MG Comet’s Global Small Electric Vehicle (GSEV) platform. This innovative little SUV is equipped with an ADAS system and a single motor installed on the rear axle.

Know about the exterior

The basic style of the Yep electric SUV is similar to that of the Comet EV and is retro-themed, like the Ford Bronco and Maruti Suzuki Jimny. With four LED daytime running lights in each unit, its headlights have visuals that are highly reminiscent of Porsche’s.
In contrast to the Comet EV, the Yep SUV has asymmetrical rear windows and has massive 15-inch alloy wheels with its wheel arches. It sports oval-shaped, vertically mounted taillights at the back and an optional LCD screen on the tailgate called Car-Watch that allows consumers to customise their display.

Baojun Yep compact SUV: Dimensions

The Yep is a very small SUV with dimensions of 1,685 mm in width, 1,721 mm in height, and 2,110 mm in wheelbase. Its length is slightly under 3,381 mm. The Yep is 407mm longer, 180mm wider, 81mm taller, and has a 100mm longer wheelbase than the Comet.
The Yep is around 300mm shorter in length and has a wheelbase that is only 40mm shorter than the three-door Suzuki Jimny. It’s interesting to note that while being 4mm shorter in height, the Yep is 40mm broader than the Jimny.

Engine and powertrain

A single electric motor on the back axle of the Baojun Yep SUV produces 68 horsepower and 140 Nm of torque, and its top speed is capped at 100 kph. A 28.1kWh lithium-ion phosphate battery with a maximum range of 303km (CLTC) supplies this power.

The battery can be charged from 30 to 80 percent using DC fast charging, which the Comet EV lacks. When using AC charging, it can be charged from 20 to 80 percent in 8.5 hours as opposed to the Comet EV’s 17.1 kWh battery, which charges from 20 to 80 percent in under 5 hours.

About the launch

As previously reported, after being rebadged, MG India would import the Baojun Yep compact SUV. The Comet EV and its components are being significantly localised by MG, and the Yep will also benefit from this localization. According to our sources, the Yep’s introduction to India won’t begin until MG India has completed its second round of funding for the second factory in Halol, Gujarat.
