Ferrari 296 GTS: With recommended extras, the starting price for Ferrari's 296 GTS in India is Rs 6.24 crore. The 296 GTB folding hard-top convertible variant of the rear-engine supercar made its debut in April of last year.
Six-cylinder-powered Ferrari model
According to the Italian manufacturer, the 296 GTS designation blends the car's overall displacement (2.992-liters) and cylinder count with the acronym (GTS) Gran Turismo Spider. The new 296 GTS is also the first six-cylinder-powered Ferrari model on the market. The Prancing Horse produced V6s for the Dino 156, but it never actually had a road car of its own.
Engine and powertrain
This plug-in hybrid is powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 gasoline engine with an electric motor. The power transmission combines a total power of 818 hp and a peak torque of 740 Nm. It is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The 296 GTS is said to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 330 km/h.
Ferrari 296 GTS: Design and top speed
The design of the 296 GTS is quite similar to its coupe sister, the 296 GTB. However, the folding hard test received some minor improvements, taking around 14 seconds to run and operating at speeds of up to 45 km/h. In addition, the open version of the supercar weighs almost 70 kg more than the GTB thanks to chassis strengthening components.
Equipped with four driving modes
It is the fourth plug-in hybrid offering from the house of Ferrari and has four driving modes – eDrive, Hybrid, Performance and Qualify. The 296 GTS starts at Rs 6.24 crore, which is significantly higher than the Rs 5.40 crore charged for its sibling, the 296 GTB.
