Toyota Suzuki Daihatsu EV Van: At an exhibition showcasing the automobile industry’s efforts towards carbon neutrality, the Toyota-Suzuki-Daihatsu trio showcased a new electric van prototype. Between May 18 and May 27, 2023, this event will occur. Along with the G7 Hiroshima Summit, this event is being hosted by JAMA (Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association).
All three present a manufacturer-branded version of the same electric minivan. The first images are out and the production versions of this prototype will be called Toyota Pixis Van, Suzuki Every and Daihatsu Hijet Cargo. Is India among the target markets? Let’s see.
Toyota Suzuki Daihatsu EV Van: Will this trio compete in Indian Market?
The last-mile logistics sector will be the primary market for Toyota Pixis Van, Suzuki Every, and Daihatsu Hijet Cargo, and CJPTC (Commercial Japan Partnership Technology Corporation) provided feedback on this project in that regard. The Pixis Van, Every, and Hijet Cargo were given to Daihatsu by the trio.
Toyota Suzuki Daihatsu EV Van: Engine is an intriguing idea
This group of people has other projects in the works as well. The mid-engined sports car from Toyota-Daihatsu-Suzuki was discussed in an earlier article. Suzuki will prepare the powertrain, Daihatsu will design it, and Toyota will create the suspension and other componentry for that project. Given that it will only weigh under 1,000 kg and is powered by a 1.0 L turbo petrol engine, it is an intriguing idea.
Can go upto 200kms in single charge
Toyota is funding the electric drivetrain for its electric minivan project. Suzuki and Daihatsu contribute with their knowledge of building small automobiles and designing interior spaces. According to rumours, the electric minivan’s production model will have a battery with a 200 km range.
Mini van is equipped with much Cargo space
With larger electric vans like the Fiat e-Ducato, future VW ID Buzz Cargo, and others, Toyota Pixis Van, Suzuki Every, and Daihatsu Hijet Cargo cannot compete. Instead, they provide a constrained amount of luggage room for the ASEAN markets and the Japan market, where Kei cars are popular. India would make a wonderful intra-city delivery vehicle for both B2B and B2C models, therefore we hope it would be a beneficiary as well.
