The Punjab government has reported a 20% increase in Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue during the first four months of the financial year 2026–27, highlighting what it describes as improved financial management and stronger tax administration under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
Bhagwant Mann Government Records 20% GST Revenue Growth
Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said the state collected ₹10,447.9 crore in GST revenue during the April–July period of FY 2026–27, compared with ₹8,708.48 crore during the corresponding period last year. The figures represent a year-on-year growth of nearly 20%, according to the government.

Cheema credited the increase to the Mann government’s fiscal policies, improved compliance measures, and administrative reforms aimed at strengthening the state’s finances. He said the revenue growth reflects the government’s focus on transparent governance and efficient financial management.
The higher GST collections are expected to provide the state with additional resources for infrastructure development, public welfare programmes, healthcare, education, and other key sectors. Strong tax revenue also helps improve the government’s fiscal position and supports planned development projects across Punjab.
The Punjab government has maintained that enhancing tax collection without placing an additional burden on honest taxpayers remains one of its key priorities. Officials say efforts to curb tax evasion, digitize tax administration, and improve enforcement have contributed to the rise in collections.
Economists note that GST revenue trends are often viewed as an important indicator of economic activity, business transactions, and consumption within a state. Sustained growth in collections may reflect stronger commercial activity, although broader economic performance depends on multiple factors.
