Oil lower as banking turmoil dampens sentiment

Tuesday saw a slight decline in oil prices as market confidence remained low after more than a week of banking turbulence. Brent crude futures for May settlement were trading at $73.06 per barrel at 07:36 GMT, down 73 cents or 1%. The price of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude for the United States fell by 56 cents, or 0.8%, to $67.08 a barrel.

Both Brent and WTI dropped by around $3 per barrel in the previous session before ending the day higher. That came after UBS offered Credit Suisse a lifeline and major central banks pledged to assist the banking system and provide market liquidity.
