Amit Shah to hold Cyclone Yaas review meeting

Union Home Minister Amit Shah to hold a meeting via video conference today with the chief ministers of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands to review preparations in view of cyclone Yaas.

Besides this, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief JP Nadda will also interact with Members of Parliament (MPs) and party workers in states to be affected by Cyclone Yaas, he announced earlier in the day.

Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister has refused to attend the meeting. The CM has cited some prior engagements and instead of her, WB Chief Secretary will participate in the crucial discussion.

Cyclonic storm Yaas is likely to cross the coast between Paradip and Sagar island on May 26. The wind speed will be around 150-160kmph and gusting up to 180kmph in Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Balasore and Bhadrak during the landfall process, IMD official Umashankar Das from Bhubaneswar told ANI.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has committed 99 teams across Odisha, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Andaman and Nicobar Islands, in view of cyclone Yaas, NDRF DG SN Pradhan was quoted as saying by ANI.

Earlier on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with senior government officials to review the preparations for the approaching Cyclone Yaas.

Amit Shah had also attended this meeting along with senior government officials and representatives from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Secretaries from Telecom, Power, Civil aviation, Earth Sciences Ministries to review preparations against the approaching Cyclone Yaas.
