Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann addressed a public meeting at Ghanie Ke Bangar village in the Fatehgarh Churian constituency, where he highlighted his government’s welfare measures in electricity, healthcare, irrigation, women’s financial assistance and education.

Bhagwant Mann Highlights Government Schemes

During the Lok Milni programme, Mann said around 90% of households in Punjab were receiving free electricity and that families had access to healthcare coverage of up to ₹10 lakh. He also highlighted the expansion of canal water supply to agricultural fields and direct financial assistance for women.

Mann presented these initiatives as part of his government’s focus on reducing the financial burden on households and improving access to essential public services.

Focus on Canal Irrigation and Agriculture

The Chief Minister also highlighted the government’s efforts to expand canal irrigation in Punjab. Recent reporting on his Fatehgarh Churian address said he cited canal water reaching around 88% of agricultural land.

The government has previously linked the expansion of canal irrigation with efforts to reduce dependence on groundwater and improve water availability for agriculture.

Mann Highlights Punjab’s Education Performance

Mann also attributed Punjab’s improved performance in education to the transformation of government schools and other measures taken by his government.

According to the Union government’s latest Performance Grading Index 2.0 data for 2024-25, Punjab recorded a score of 709.1, placing it in the PRACHESTA-1 grade category. The state’s score was 631.2 in 2023-24.

Claims About Public Support and 2027

Addressing the gathering, Mann referred to a public survey conducted during the programme and said the response showed continued public support for his government. He also said that Punjab would choose the path of development in the 2027 Assembly election.

These remarks represent Mann’s political assessment of the response at the gathering and his expectations for the next state election.
