Volkswagen to soon launch an entry-level EV in the Indian market
Volkswagen, the German automotive giant, intends to introduce an electric car at the entry-level in India within the next several years. At the Bharat Mobility Global Expo, the automaker unveiled some information regarding its next electric vehicle for India. Global firms like the Volkswagen Group see India to be an appealing market, since the manufacturer projects that the country’s electric vehicle penetration will increase by 2030. Earlier this year, the group’s Skoda Auto declared that it would introduce its first electric vehicle (EV) in India.
What did the company say?
Piyush Arora, CEO of Skoda Auto Volkswagen India, said, “We are actively working on an entry-level EV. It needs large investment. To justify a three-figure million dollar investment for the new product we need the volumes.”
“Penetration of EVs in India will not be as fast, so we are looking at the possibility of exporting that product,” he added.
