Brokers are opening new demat accounts every month, but some of their old clients are consistently getting negative returns from the stock market, so they think it best to stay away from it. The latest data from NSE shows that the active client list of the exchange has declined by 53 lakhs in the last 9 months.

Investors enthusiasm decreased in the matter of trading in the stock market

The number of active clients on the NSE declined for the ninth consecutive month in March to 32.7 million, down 5.3 million from 38 million investors in June 2022. Apart from this, three other signals show that retail traders in the market are less upbeat now than when they were commuting to work during different phases of the lockdown in the country. In the financial year 2023, investors invested the least as compared to the last three years.

According to NSE data, the investment by retail investors in the market was the lowest in the last three years. During the financial year 2023, it was only 49,200 crores. Whereas during the year 2021-22 this figure was Rs 1.65 lakh crore and during the financial year 2020-21 it was Rs 68,400 crore.
