The 8th Pay Commission is expected to bring major salary revisions for government employees. One of the key proposals under consideration is the merger of pay scales from Level 1 to Level 6, as demanded by the central employees’ organisation, JCM Staff Side. If approved, this move could significantly boost employee salaries.

Possible Salary Hike for Employees Under 8th Pay Commission

Currently, Level 1 employees receive a salary of ₹18,000 per month, while Level 2 employees earn ₹19,900. With the proposed merger and a 2.86 fitment factor, Level 1 employees may see their basic salary jump to ₹51,480. Similarly, the revised salaries for other merged levels could be:

  • Level 1 & Level 2: ₹51,480

  • Level 3 & Level 4: ₹72,930

  • Level 5 & Level 6: ₹1,01,244

This restructuring aims to provide better financial growth and career progression for employees.

Key Demand by JCM Staff Side in 8th Pay Commission

According to reports, the National Joint Consultative Mechanism (JCM) Staff Side has submitted recommendations regarding pay structure, allowances, and pension reforms. Among these, the pay scale merger under the 8th Pay Commission stands out as a crucial demand. The idea behind this proposal is to streamline the salary system and ensure fair increments across different levels.

Existing Salary Structure

Under the 7th Pay Commission, government salaries are divided into 18 levels, with the lowest salary at ₹18,000 (Level 1) and the highest at ₹2,50,000 (Level 18). The proposed restructuring will merge lower-level pay scales to simplify the system and enhance salary progression.

How Will the 8th Pay Commission Pay Scale Merger Benefit Employees?

The merger of pay scales under the 8th Pay Commission is expected to bring more uniformity in salaries, making the salary structure less complex. Employees in the lower pay brackets will benefit the most, as they will see significant hikes in their basic pay. Additionally, career growth prospects will improve, ensuring better financial security for government employees.

With the 8th Pay Commission discussions underway, employees are eagerly waiting for official confirmation on these changes. If the proposal is implemented, it could bring a major financial boost to thousands of government workers across the country.
