Congress hits it out at Adani and PM Modi

The Adani Group has suffered a significant decline in their stocks in the Indian stock market after a US-based short-seller firm, Hindenburg Research, made allegations of fraudulent transactions and share price manipulation against the conglomerate.

At a press conference, Jairam Ramesh, the General Secretary (Communications) for the Congress party, announced that starting from Sunday, the Congress will be asking Prime Minister Narendra Modi three questions daily regarding the recent Adani stock crisis. The 10 listed Adani Group companies have experienced a significant loss of over Rs 8.76 lakh crore in the past few days due to the Hindenburg Research report.

Jairam said, “At the G20 summit in Hangzhou, China on 5 September 2016, you (Modi) stated: ‘We need to act to eliminate safe havens for economic offenders, track down and unconditionally extradite money launderers and break down the web of complex international regulations and excessive banking secrecy that hide the corrupt and their deeds’. This leads to some questions that you and your government cannot hide from saying HAHK (Hum Adani Ke Hain Kaun).”

Gautam Adani cancelled Rs. 20000 crore FPO

Gautam Adani, who recently lost his position as Asia’s richest man, released a statement this week emphasizing the importance of investor interests and announcing the cancellation of a Rs 20,000 crore FPO in his primary company, Adani Enterprises. After Hindenburg Research released a report in January, the Adani Group has issued multiple statements rejecting the allegations as “baseless” and “malicious.” However, Hindenburg countered by stating that “the allegations of fraud cannot be hidden by nationalism or a dismissive response that fails to address the issues raised.”
