Apple anticipates the China Plus One strategy in global product procurement, and the Government of India wants it grow leaps and bounds

Due to supply chain concerns with Covid in China, Apple, which has its headquarters in Cupertino, is already stepping up manufacture of iPhone models in the nation. With a potential investment of Rs 2,800 crore and the creation of thousands of employment, the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) recently announced that certain Apple suppliers had registered for land with the authority.

iPhone has three assembly partners in India: Foxconn, Wistron and Pegatron and they are participating in PLI scheme

According to a report, the Apple suppliers and a well-known manufacturer of camera parts sought to build a facility on roughly 23 acres of land with a proposed expenditure of Rs 2,800 crore. There are now three assembly companies working with iPhone in India: Foxconn, Wistron, and Pegatron. All three are a part of the PLI programme, and their output is anticipated to increase in the future years.

It should be noted that Apple introduced the iPhone 14 models in September and that the business started producing the new model in the nation 10 days after the series’ global introduction. This highlights Apple’s declining reliance on China, or at least tries to.

In the meantime, since April, Apple Inc.’s iPhone exports to India have exceeded $1 billion. iPhone shipments from India, primarily to Europe and the Middle East, are expected to reach $2.5 billion in the 12 months leading up to March 2023, according to a Bloomberg article that cites industry analysts.

Even though India only produces a small portion of iPhones, experts think this will help Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s aim to make India the world’s alternate factory to China.
