PM-AASHA: The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a significant allocation of Rs 35,000 crore for the PM Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA), as announced by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. This scheme is designed to support farmers by providing them with remunerative prices and stabilizing market prices for consumers.
Objectives of PM-AASHA
The PM-AASHA initiative aims to ensure that farmers receive fair prices for their produce while stabilizing market prices for essential commodities. The program focuses on boosting self-sufficiency in the production of pulses, oilseeds, and other key agricultural and horticultural products. It also seeks to protect farmers from distress sales during peak harvesting periods.
Key Components of PM-AASHA
- Integrated Price Support & Stabilization Scheme (IPS&SS): This component safeguards farmers from distress sales by ensuring that they are protected from price drops during harvest seasons. It stabilizes market prices while benefiting both producers and consumers.
- Price Deficit Payment Scheme (PDPS): This scheme aims to promote self-reliance in the production of pulses, oilseeds, and other essential crops by ensuring that farmers are compensated for any price shortfalls during sales.
- Market Intervention Scheme (MIS): The MIS is focused on stabilizing consumer prices while increasing farmers’ incomes. It provides an essential safety net to prevent significant price fluctuations in the agricultural market.
Through the PM-AASHA scheme, the government is committed to increasing farmers’ incomes and protecting consumer interests, addressing both the production and price challenges in India’s agricultural sector.
