The Central Government is making a focused push toward strengthening the livelihoods of traditional artisans and craftspeople through the PM Vishwakarma Yojana. Launched to uplift skilled workers in 18 traditional trades such as carpentry, goldsmithing, blacksmithing, potting, tailoring, and more, the scheme aims to integrate these individuals into the formal economy and enhance their income opportunities.

Training and Financial Aid to Empower Artisans

Under the scheme, beneficiaries are provided with both basic and advanced training, accompanied by a daily stipend of ₹500. To support modernization, artisans receive an e-voucher of ₹15,000 for purchasing advanced tools that can improve the quality and efficiency of their work.

Additionally, the scheme offers collateral-free loans in two phases—₹1 lakh and ₹2 lakh, repayable over 18 and 30 months respectively—at a subsidized interest rate of just 5%. This financial assistance is designed to help artisans expand or stabilize their businesses without falling into debt traps.

Encouraging Digital and Market Integration

To promote digital literacy and formal transactions, the government provides an incentive of ₹1 per digital transaction, capped at 100 transactions per month. The scheme also includes branding, marketing, and e-commerce support, helping artisans access larger markets through platforms like GeM and other online outlets.

Who Can Apply?

Adults (18 years and above) engaged in any of the 18 identified traditional trades are eligible.

Minors, government employees, and their immediate family members are not eligible.

Self-employed artisans in the unorganized sector will be prioritized.

Applicants must have an Aadhaar-linked mobile number and a valid bank account. Registration can be done online or at any nearby Common Service Centre (CSC).

Driving Self-Reliance and Rural Economy

The PM Vishwakarma Yojana is not just a welfare scheme—it is a strategic move to revive India’s rich artisanal heritage, create local employment, and strengthen rural and semi-urban economies. With training, credit support, digital incentives, and market exposure, the initiative holds the promise of transforming millions of skilled workers into successful micro-entrepreneurs.
